On January 22nd, RISD welcomed legal scholar, social justice advocate and New York Times columnist Michelle Alexander to deliver their Martin Luther King Jr. keynote lecture. Alexander, a major influence on Jordan Seaberry, brings audiences profoundly necessary and meaningful insights on the practice of mass incarceration that plagues the US justice system, as well as eye-opening conversation on how we can end racial caste in America. In her acclaimed bestseller The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness (The New Press, 2010), she peels back the curtain on systemic racism in the US prison system.

Seaberry had the honor of presenting Alexander with this new work as a conclusion to the lecture.
